The word attar is derived from an old Persian word meaning "to smell sweet." Well known in the middle East, Persia and India for thousands of years attars have only recently been popularly introduced in the West. Attars are what many people consider to be the finest alcohol free perfume oils in the world. A genuine well made attar will consist of a highly concentrated aromatic oil, usually non irritating to most skin types, that presents a scent unlike any traditional perfumery product. Attars are made so well that a tiny drop can provide a long lasting enjoyment for many hours.
Attars are traditionally comprise of several to sometimes 20-30 different raw materials, flowers, essential oils and perfumes. They are usually blended with carrier oils such as Jojoba. Attar oils are always derived from the finest natural aromatic plants. The elegant and exceedingly rich scents of attars are obtained by condensing vapors directly into a base of sandalwood oil.
