Teracotta Buddha Head, 7"H
Teracotta Buddha Head, 7"H
Exhibiting profound symbols of an awakened life, this beautiful teracotta statue is imported from India. Allow the timeless serenity imparted by this statue to grace your sacred space, altar or home. The earlobes are elongated, partly to indicate the Buddha is all-hearing and partly as a reminder of the heavy earrings that weighed them down before Siddhartha renounced material things to seek enlightenment. His curly hair, according to legend, indicates that after shearing off his long princely locks, Siddhartha from then on had a head of short, fine curls - not a common look in Asia and thus a distinguishing sign. The "bump" (ushnisha) at the top of Buddha's head symbolizes his wisdom and openness as an enlightened being. His eyes are closed gently with a down-cast inner gaze indicating his deep absorption.

Patanjali, The Founder of the Yoga System - Stone Sculpture 12.5"
Patanjali, The Founder of the Yoga System - Stone Sculpture 12.5"
The graceful figure of the great sage and father of yoga Patanjali is beautifully carved out of stone with wonderful refinement and detail. This one-of-a-kind piece was crafted by artisans in India based on traditional and symbolic renderings of Patanjali. Though virtually nothing is known of the actual life of Patanjali this traditional rendering tells a spiritual "biography." Two of Patanjali's four arms are joined together in the anjali mudra, the jesture of salutation, unity, peace and prayer - a sign that those who endure the difficulties of the path of wisdom will find peace. Another, upraised, hand holds sankha, the conch that embodies the energy of sound: here Patnajli "calls" those who are ready to a life of wisdom. His other uplifted hand holds the cakra or discus that embodies both the turning wheel of time and its associated law of cause and effect. He is depicted as half-human and half-serpent, the serpent half representing the timeless and awakened knowledge that he embodies.

This large piece stands just over a foot tall and is perfect for a Yoga studio or sacred space and would make a wonderful gift for a respected Yoga teacher.
