The Birth Of Venus

One of the masterpieces of the Renaissance, The Birth of Venus was inspired by ancient descriptions of long-lost Greek masterpieces. The painting hangs in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
Sandro Botticelli (c.1445-1510)
Botticelli worked for the Medicis and was commissioned by Pope Sixtus IV to decorate the Sistine Chapel. His reputation was in decline for many years until his rediscovery in the late 19th century.
